Of Panic and Promises

Is the world falling apart? Absolutely. Is your personal world falling apart? Possibly.

How does that make you feel? Panicked? Depressed? Longing for normality and rest and blissful innocence and joy and… and… ?

I know. Me too.

But as I scanned a few Psalms this morning, there they were – God’s incredible promises. Like golden autumn leaves on a foggy morning. Like the security of strong arms and a warm blanket. Like other-worldly beautiful music. Like a comforting cup of coffee. Like these and so many more. But also completely unlike because who can fully compare God’s promises to such earthiness?

The earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.

Psalm 33:5 KJV

The Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

Psalm 34:22 KJV

How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

Psalm 36:7-9 KJV

But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble.

And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

Psalm 37:39-40 KJV

The faithfulness of the changing seasons testifies to the faithfulness of an unchanging God.
